The Associated Press seeks a Sports Video Journalist (Producer) with a thorough knowledge and passion for sports. We are looking for someone with a history of successful television and online video storytelling to join our SNTV team based in New York. Reporting to the SNTV North America Editor, this producer will produce and publish sports highlight wraps based on the parameters allowed by worldwide rights holders. Responsibilities: The producer will produce and publish content in accordance with licensing agreements, script and shot-list highlight wraps and topical sports news and feature packages. As a member of a dynamic, round-the-clock operation that covers sports news across the globe, the successful candidate must employ AP digital workflow to intake, edit, script and publish content from around the world in a timely fashion. This journalist must be adept at identifying and interviewing athletes, coaches, sports experts, etc., for sport news edits, as well as coordinating such interviews. The video producer should also have experience working in the field, and be able to gather, edit and upload b-roll, interviews, press conferences, etc., from the scene of a story, including major sporting events. The producer is also required to regularly liaise with both AP staff and outside resources to pursue coverage of spot/breaking news. The successful candidate will: have strong editing skills. have strong grammar and writing skills, for scripts, story summaries, shotlists and news stories. recognize strong news stories and visualize information in compelling ways in video, all under deadline pressure. have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with AP colleagues, sports leagues, media companies, publish relations firms and other resources. maintain AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity. Qualifications: The producer should have at least 5 years working in broadcast sports news coverage or sports digital media company. The producer must be skilled in the use of ENPS, Adobe Premiere and digital upload and download content delivery. Have strong knowledge of both U.S. domestic and international sports, and an ability to identify and understand the relevance of athletes from all parts of the world. AP is a 24/7 operation, so the producer must have the ability and willingness to work all shifts, including nights and weekends as coverage demands. This journalist must be able to travel on short notice including for overnight assignments. Other qualifications : Must be able to gather and produce elements at the scene of sporting events Standing for long periods of time before, during and after sporting events. Ability to carry heavy video equipment (approx. 40-lbs.) over large areas such as a golf course. Demonstrated experience with Adobe Premiere or comparable non-linear editing system is required. Outstanding communications skills, including the ability to work with other reporters and editors in person and remotely. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. Authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English.
