Video equipment rental site KitSplit has bought a similar site, CameraLends, to become the largest video equipment rental site.

KitSplit is a great site that can offer easy equipment rentals from people and rental houses in your area. It is basically the AirBnB for camera equipment. If you have equipment you can list it on the site and set your price, and when you are not using it you can rent it out to fellow video producers. If you are looking for equipment, just search what you are looking for and see results from around your area. It really is that simple.

“There are more content creators today than ever before and they all need access to top quality, affordable gear. The CameraLends acquisition will further our goals of democratizing access to great gear and empowering creators.” – Lisbeth Kaufman, KitSplit Co-Founder and CEO, Press Release via Forbes

For most of human history, people lived in a world without news. The concept simply did not exist. The idea of news is really a 19th-century phenomenon, driven first by newspapers, and then by electronic media which brought us radio, then TV and now the web. Not because the technology is not there, but rather because, increasingly, people are no longer interested in news, at least in the way it is packaged now.

What TV News Could Be

When television was invented in the 1930s, no one knew what TV news was supposed to look like. The medium had never existed before, and so, like Gutenberg half a millennium, prior, the first creators of TV news had to fall back on a medium with which they were familiar, and that was radio.

Maybe scary stories drive ratings… or maybe they don’t.
